THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT
OF
GODFREE TARBOX
"In the name of God, Amen. I, Godfree Tarbox of Hebron in the Co. of Hartford, being of sound mind and memory (praise be God for it) do make and ordain this my last will and testament: and in the first place, I will and bequeath my soul to God that gave it, and my body to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors hereafter named; and as to the worldly estate which it has pleased God to bless me with, I give and dispose of the same in the manner following viz.:
"In the first place I give and bequeath to my wife Hannah all my moveables after my just debts and funeral charges are paid, to her own disposal free and clear, and also the use of my dwelling house and all the land it stands on the west side of the way during her natural life, and after her decease, I give and bequeath said house and lands to my two granddaughters, viz. Lydia Tarbox and Abigail Tarbox, daughters to my son Jonathan, deceased, and if one of them die before my wife, then the survivor to take the whole.
"Then my will is and I hereby order and direct, that the farm on which my son Thomas Tarbox lived, lying part in Hebron and part in Lebanon and which I designed to have given him be disposed of to pay his just debts in manner following viz.: to be prized by different men mutually chosen and to be let out by the executors to rhe creditors, and no other way, and the remainder of said farm with the builing and appurtenances I give my grandchildren viz. my son Thomas' children as follows viz.: to Jonathan, Benjamin, and Thomas each one fourth part of the remainder after paying his debts as above, the other fourth part being equally between my two granddaughters, Deborah and Jemima Tarbox, daughters of my son Thomas, deceased, and my will is that Deborah, the widow and relict of my son Thomas have the whole improvement of what I give my son Thomas' children, until they shall severally come of age or so long as she shall remain his widow. :
"Item - I give to my two sons viz.: David and Solomon all the farm on which they live to be divided by a line from the North Pond westward, as they have agreed to divide - David to have the south part and Solomon the north part. David's part bounds on the west on land I bought of Gershom Holdridge, David paying to my wife forty pounds and Solomon paying her twelve pounds as legacies.
"I give to the children of my daughter Lydia Porter, deceased, the one half of the land I bought of Benjamin Taylor and also one half of the land I bought of Gershom Holdridge; and the other part of said lands I bought of Taylor and Holdridge I give to my daughter Hannah Phelps.
"And my will is that my Hon. mother Elinor Gott be honorably supported during her natural life out of my estate and that each of my children contribute in proportion to the part given them towards her support.
"I do appoint my two sons David and Solomon to be the executors of this my last will and testament and I do revoke and diavow any other or former will or codicil; and in witness hereof and that this is my last will and testament I set to it my hand and seal this 9th day of january Anno. Dom. 1767."
Signed, sealed, published, and declared to be his last will and testament.
